The Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Work Remote From Cape Town, South Africa
Two months ago I arrived in the colorful, musical, vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa. From my first day here I knew I was going to fall in love with this city, and a few months later Cape Town has not only met, but exceeded my expectations in so many ways.
There is so much to do, see, and explore in this city. On top of that, as someone who works full-time and remotely Cape Town has proved an excellent place to work remotely. That being said, here are my top 5 reasons why you have to choose Cape Town as your next remote work location!
1 - Welcoming Culture and Easy Communication
South Africa is an incredibly diverse country, and there are over a dozen languages spoken here. The most widely spoken languages are Afrikaans and English. Anyone who has traveled to a new country and struggled to communicate with locals in a new language knows that it can be a very challenging experience, so arriving in South Africa where I could easily navigate without a major language barrier was so helpful and made the whole process of moving and settling in so much easier.
People in Cape Town are so kind, helpful and made me feel so welcome. This warm and welcoming culture was so refreshing to experience and made my stay here 100 times better.
2- Great Infrastructure and Affordable Cost of Living
All in all Cape Town has a great infrastructure making it super easy to get around the city and explore all the sights. The easiest and most popular ways to get around are by rental car, uber, or walking and I’ve found that all of these options are super affordable. I also found that renting an apartment with all the amenities (wifi, 24-hour security, gas, and electric) included was very easy and affordable as well. Prices go up during the busy summer months, but overall renting an apartment in Cape Town is very straightforward.
3 - Big Cafe Culture is perfect for Digital Nomads
I visited so many cafes here in Cape Town. The fact that Cape Town has such a lively cafe culture is perfect for digital nomads because they provide a safe, comfortable working environment. Working from home (even remotely) can feel mundane sometimes so it’s always great to mix it up by working from a cafe once or twice a week. If you visit Cape Town be sure to check out Truth Cafe, Loading Bay, Origins, and Coco Safar.
4 - From Hiking to Wine Tours to Swimming with Seals - There is Something for Everyone to Enjoy Here
Without a doubt, the best part about Cape town is the fact that there are endless activities and places to explore. My favorite moments were definitely hiking table mountain, swimming with seals in the marina, tasting wine and traveling on the wine tram, and just walking around the city and hearing all the music and life around me.
5 - Amazing food and warm climate
Finally, Cape Town is the perfect destination for remote workers who love sunshine, warm weather, and amazing food. The weather is always nice, never too hot or cold even in the winter, and it’s always sunny. As it's a very multicultural city, you can find local food and food from all over the world here. I highly recommend trying Peri-Peri Chicken at Vasco da Gama Tavern and breakfast or brunch from the Oranjezicht City Market.
From food to culture, to music, to endless activities and entertainment - Cape Town has something for everyone. If you are a remote worker like me, or a digital nomad, I highly recommend checking out Cape Town for your next destination. You won’t be disappointed!
